米有力音楽出版社がAIスタートアップに対し著作権侵害訴訟を提起 - US major music publishers file a copyright infringement suit against an AI start-up company
ユニバーサルミュージックグループをはじめとする有力音楽出版社は、2023年10月18日、テネシー中央連邦地裁において、AIスタートアップ、アンソロピック社に対し著作権侵害訴訟を提訴しました。アンソロピック社がAI モデルClaudeを開発する際に、音楽者出版社が著作権を保有する楽曲の歌詞を無断複製したことに対する著作権の直接侵害とClaudeユーザーによる著作権侵害について寄与侵害および代位侵害責任を同社が負うと訴状で主張しています。本件は、音楽出版社がAI企業に対して著作権侵害訴訟を提起した米国における最初の事例であると報じられています。
Universal Music Group and other major music publishers (“Publishers”) filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against AI start-up, Anthropic on October 18, 2023 in the District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. The Publishers allege in the complaint that Anthropic should be liable for direct copyright infringement for unauthorized reproductions of song lyrics to which the Publishers hold the copyrights when it developed its AI model “Claude” and that it also should be contributorily and vicariously liable for copyright infringement committed by users of Claude. It is reported that this is the first case in the US where music publishers filed a copyright infringement suit against an AI company.
